Diabolo is a juggling prop made from two cups connected by an axel and is spun using sticks and string, due to it’s simplicity diabolo has been popular since the 13th century in both eastern and western cultures. Originally wooden the diabolo would have holes along the edge of the cups to make a loud roaring noise, this design was then changed when it came to France and the familiar egg cup shape was first produced. There are now hundreds of tricks possible with just one diabolo achieved by manipulation of the string or using different parts of the body like the legs and arms. It is also possible to spin multiple diabolos on one string using orbits or high throws or spin a single diabolo vertically, known as Vertax, 'vertical axis', or you can ditch the sticks altogether and use a loop of string for loop diabolo. Check out the extensive trick menu to the right...
There are many type of diabolo available, smaller and lighter diabolo achieve their top speed quicker and can be thrown higher but have less moment so loose spin faster than larger diabolos which have better balance and will spin longer. Most diabolo have a fixed axle, but diabolos are available where the cups spin independently from the axle this mean you can’t slow the diabolo down with friction from the sting and you can even hold the spinning diabolo between your fingers. Here are out 3 recommended diabolos review taken from firetoys.com. |
Henry's Circus Diabolo - £23
| The Henry's Circus diabolo is possibly the best Diabolo ever made. This fact is heavily debated in the Diabolo world as Mr Babache has created some fantastic contenders for the title. The circus is a large Diabolo well suited to almost all tricks as well as being superb for 2 diabolo moves. The rubber cups are perfectly formed and balanced and have enough weight to ensure long smooth spins. The anodised aluminium hubs are precision crafted in Germany (very precise) and house the perfectly shaped smooth 'V' spindle. The Circus is an over engineered German prop made to an exquisitely high standard by one of the best Diabolo manufacturers around. We can't fault it. | ![]() |
Mr Babache Finesse G3 Diabolo - £20
|
The Mr Babache Finesse G3 is a top of the range light weight Diabolo. Like the G2 It's made from a resistant flexible rubber polymer moulded into a thin butterfly shape allowing you to perform close body moves easily using both 1 or 2 diabolos. The wide cups mean great stage visibility and an easy grip position for throw ins. The Finesse really turns up trumps when you look at the accessories available and the way in which it was designed with add-ons in mind. The light kits (evolution kit 4) screw onto both sides of the Diabolo and illuminate the entire translucent body (except white which is opaque). Fine tune the Finesse by adding balanced weights either side with the evolution kit 3 (available in 6g and 10g). Also available is the extended axle for finger grinds and other moves (Evolution kit 1). All the evo kits turn this great Diabolo into a fantastic one. We love it. |

Ryo Yabe Sundia Fly Bearing Diabolo - £24
|
Designed and used by ace diabolist Ryo Yabe, this signature diabolo is quite simply the best 1 way bearing diabolo we have seen! Combined with the chunky wide axle this diabolo gives exceptionally long stick or finger grinds and is very stable at high speeds. The rigid plastic cups that are so popular in Eastern diabolos are very responsive to multi diabolo stick corrections and clean up really well too! However be warned as they are plastic they should not be dropped from height on rough /hard surfaces as they scratch easier than rubber diabolos. Purpose built rigid axles and LED light kits can also be bought making the Sundia Fly a contender for best diabolo on the market! |
